The Pretty Reckless
Like ripping pages from a diary and turning them into a musical confessional, The Pretty Reckless graduate to a new level of artistry with their fifth original studio album, aptly titled Dear God.
The journey to get here was not easy. At just 14 years old, when Taylor Momsen shifted her entire world toward pursuing her dream of rock and roll, she had no idea where it would take her. She formed a band and a sound that refused to follow the common standards of contemporary music, where the song always came first, with a discography written entirely by Momsen and guitarist Ben Phillips. This creative foundation would become the catalyst that dictated the direction of the music as both her career and the band’s identity evolved.
From the first album, Light Me Up, featuring the #1 rock song “Make Me Wanna Die,” Momsen had the springboard to make music her way, without interference from the outside world. After relentlessly touring the world in support of their debut, The Pretty Reckless achieved unlikely mainstream success with their second album, Going to Hell, which debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 and yielded three Billboard #1 rock radio hits, including the ubiquitous “Heaven Knows,” which held the top spot for 18 weeks.
The follow-up album, Who You Selling For, would also provide the band with the #1 hit “Take Me Down.”
At their peak in 2017, while on tour with Soundgarden, and again in 2018, the band suffered devastating blows with the losses of their major influence Chris Cornell, as well as their longtime producer and friend Kato Khandwala.
After battling the demons that followed, The Pretty Reckless returned in 2020 with the rock classic Death by Rock and Roll. Topping album charts in 11 countries and yielding three #1 rock radio hits in the United States, the record secured the band’s stature by setting the record for the most #1 songs by any female-fronted rock act in history, either solo or as a group. This momentum led to stadium shows around the world with icons AC/DC, as well as stages shared with legendary acts like The Rolling Stones and Foo Fighters.
Now, after more than five years since their last album, they have accomplished the unthinkable. Rising above their previous work, they have taken their music to an entirely new level.
The first single from Dear God, “For I Am Death,” marks their eighth #1 at rock radio, making history yet again. But this is only the beginning. Dear God is an album that must be experienced in its entirety to fully grasp the depth of its message.
With songs that reveal a brutal honesty rarely heard in the modern era, Dear God offers an intimate and intense look into the mind of Taylor Momsen. Energized and authentic, the record signals the beginning of a new chapter for the band. Offering a fresh take on rock and roll that feels both dangerous and comforting, Dear God is a record that will reach into the deepest parts of your soul and refuse to let go.
